Welcome to the blog of Lighthouse Christian Homeschool!

This blog serves three purposes:

1. To have a place to 'jot down' the day to day happenings in our homeschool for our support teacher to see, in hopes that some of the things we do will fit nicely into the provincial learning outcomes.

2. To keep my family up to date on what we're 'up to'.

3. To glorify God.

So on that note, come on in!

Science is Shocking

The last little while, we've been doing a Science unit on electricity. We had fun learning about static electricity and then moved on to circuits and other neat stuff.
First we rub the balloon to build up the static electricity.
It works! The paper men stick to the balloon!
Now it's Rebecca's turn to rub the balloon.
This is fun!
Joshua's turn

Now we'll use our homemade static tester to see if different materials hold a static charge.
Nope, the stick doesn't work.
Let's try the plastic comb
Hmm
How about this? I think I saw the tester wiggle just a bit!
We did a whole bunch of circuit experiments with the Electronic Playground
In this one we learned that salt water is a good conductor of electricity. It made the LED light up brighter than just plain tap water.
We've also been doing the Gizmos on the explorelearning.com website. They are really neat! Science is fun!
